SGTech, the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) in Singapore and Kneppelhout & Korthals Advocaten (Joost Vrancken Peeters) organized a seminar on 23 April, on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Mr. Elmar Bouma, Executive Director of NFIA SEA, opened the seminar and highlighted key advantages of making the Netherlands the gateway for businesses entering the European market. He emphasized that of particular note is the triple helix of cyber security, which brings together business, government and knowledge institutions to jointly collaborate in the following areas:
- R&D / Innovation
- Dissemination of Information
Mr. Yeo See Kiat, Executive Director of SGTech, gave an outline of the data protection initiatives of SGTech’s Cyber Security Chapter. He emphasized the recent regulatory changes in Singapore, such as the PDPA in 2016 and acknowledged the need for companies and organizations in Singapore to prepare for the fast-paced climate of technological change. Following these introductory remarks by SGTech and NFIA, Mr. Joost Vrancken Peeters, gave an introduction on the GDPR coming into effect on 25 May, 2018 in the EU.
